Originating
in China several thousand years ago, Pai Gow is rich in lore and tradition.
It was first introduced in the United States of America in the early
1970's and translated, Pai Gow literally means 'Dominoes Nine'.
At first glance the game of Pai Gow looks confusing, all those red and
white dots, strange names and so on.
The good news is that the actual colour of the dots is meaningless and
most of those strange names have English equivalents. After a brief
period of time everything will begin to fall into place.
An exciting variation of the regular more traditional game of Pai Gow
- Bonanza Pai Gow is also available for play. Bonanza Pai Gow incorporates
two additional betting options: the Bonus bet and the Tie bet.
Aim of the Game
The aim of
the game is to make two ranked hands using four dominoes, two dominoes
per hand.
Two hands are set: the back or high hand, and the front or low hand
(except where the player sets their tiles with respect to a Bonus wager
or a Tie wager).
Players must have higher ranking hands than the banker to win. If the
player wins one hand and the banker the other, this is a 'stand off'.
If both banker and player have the same ranking hands, the banker wins.
1. Pai Gow is played with 32 tiles (Dominoes). Twenty-two of these are made up of 11 identical pairs and the remaining 10 are made up of 5 mixed pairs.
2. The tiles are shuffled.
3. Players place their wagers and the dice are shaken to determine which playing area receives the first four tiles and how the tiles will be cut.
4. Four tiles are dealt to all eight playing areas.
5. Players do not pick up their tiles until the Dealer has removed all non-required tiles for that hand and placed his/her tiles in the centre of the table.
6. No communication between players is allowed once the players have been asked to set their tiles.
7. Each player and the banker will construct two separate hands of two tiles each, a high hand and a low hand.
8. In order for a player to win, both of his/her hands must be of a higher value than the banker's hands.
9. If only one hand is higher, it is a 'stand off' (does not win or lose).
10. If both hands are lower, the player loses.
11. All winning wagers are paid even money less 5%.
BETTING OPTIONS
Bonus Bet
A Bonus wager will win if the four tiles dealt to a player placing a Bonus wager form one of the eight winning hands described in the table below.

A Tie wager will win if one of the hands dealt to a player placing a Tie wager is higher than one of the matching banker's hand.
In any round of play a player may place a wager on regular Pai Gow, the Bonus or the Tie, or any combination of these bets.
Winning wagers are paid even money except where the value of the players low hand is a Gong, in this case the winning wager is paid at odds of 25 to 1.
