How to Play
The Basics
All Poker games originate from two basic types, Draw Poker and Stud Poker. Whichever variation is played, only one deck of cards is used.

The Aim
The aim of the game is for one player, using their best five card Poker hand, to beat the other players to win the combined wagers, or pot. This is achieved by either :

Showing the highest ranking hand at showdown or in the game of Omaha Hi-Low Eight Qualifier, the lowest hand at the showdown, or Showing superior playing strategy (bluffing).

The Cards
The aim in Poker is to use your best five card hand to beat the other players. Remember, in all Poker games except Manila, the Ace may be high or low for the purpose of forming a straight.

The Wagers
One hand of Poker consists of an initial deal and/or community cards, card draws, and a number of betting rounds. The number of rounds depends on the type of game. Players bet against each other's hands.

The Round
A player may choose to withdraw from any round of play in Poker. When that happens it is known as 'folding'. If you don't think your cards are good enough, you may fold. By doing so you need not contribute further to the pot but forfeit all claim to the pot.

Your Host
When you play Poker at Crown and Star City, the House takes no part in the game. The house's role is simply one of the host. We provide a Dealer, the necessary equipment, a safe environment, and approved rules and procedures.

At the end of each round of play or during the course of a hand, the house takes a small amount from the pot in return for offering these services. They may charge a set fee from players which is collected at set times.

Tournaments
A Poker tournament is an event in which Poker players compete for all or part of a prize pool. Each player pays an entry fee to enter the tournament and receive an initial bank of tournament chips. The chips have no cash value except at the end of the tournament. Tournaments are run regularly and are a great way to learn Poker. For a small entry fee you can have hours of fun.

Poker Variations
Draw Poker
1. To begin, players place an initial wager (ante) to receive five cards dealt face down. They pick up the cards and look at them then decide if they wish to stay in the game. If so, a bet must now be placed.
2. Once all bets are called the first round of betting is complete.
3. Players may now choose to exchange with the Dealer any number of cards from their hand. This is known as 'the draw'.
4. Once the draw is complete, a second round of betting takes place.
5. If all bets are called there is a showdown.
6. The winner is the player with the highest ranking hand.
7. If only one player remains (ie. no showdown), they will win the pot without having to expose their cards.

Draw Blind
Two players at the table make a small bet, or blind wager, before receiving any cards. Each player seated in the game takes a turn at placing such a wager.

Stud Poker
5 Card Stud
1. To begin the game, you receive two cards, one dealt face down and the other face up.
2. The player with the lowest ranking up-card must place the opening bet.
3. Each player to the left of the player making the opening bet must in turn either call the opening bet, raise it or fold.
4. When this round is over, each player is then dealt a third, fourth and fifth card. After each round of cards is dealt betting takes place.
5. Betting is started by the highest Poker hand showing.
6. In the final round, all players have five cards in their hand, one down and four face up.
7. If there is a showdown, players show all 5 cards. The winning hand is the highest ranking five card Poker hand.

7 Card Stud
1. In 7 Card Stud, the play is the same as in 5 Card Stud, except each player initially receives three cards.
2. The three cards are dealt two face down and one face up.
3. Players receive a total of seven cards, the last of which is dealt face down, being a total of three down and four up.
4. In all games players may look at their own hole cards.
5. A the showdown, the winning hand is the highest ranking five card Poker hand, using a combination of any of the seven cards dealt.

Manila
Manila is played with a reduced deck of 32 or 36 cards containing 7 or 6 through Ace. Manila is the only game where the Ace cannot be used as a low card to form a straight.

2 Card Manila
1. To begin, players receive two cards dealt face down. These are called hole cards.
2. The Dealer opens (places face up) five cards in the centre of the table, one at a time.
3. Players are required to either bet or check on each card as it is opened.
4. At the showdown, players use their own hole cards and any three cards from the five community cards in the centre of the table to form a five card Poker hand.

3 Card Manila
3 Card Manila is played the same way as 2 card Manila except each player initially receives three cards. At the showdown, players use any two of their three hole cards with any three cards from the five community cards to form a five card Poker hand.

Hold'em
Hold'em is similar to Manila, except a 52 card deck is used.

1. Two cards are dealt face down, the first round of betting takes place.
2. The first three community cards are opened simultaneously after the first round of betting is complete. The fourth and fifth community cards are opened (dealt) one at a time.
3. Players make their five card Poker hand using any combination of their two hole cards and the five community cards.
4. At the showdown, the winning hand is the highest ranking five card Poker hand.

Omaha
Omaha is similar to Hold'em, except each player receives four hole cards.
